Add custom field to Mailchimp audience

Feature ID: CRMS-1680, CRMS-1694

By default, Sage CRM automatically adds a number of fields to your Mailchimp audience. For details, see Mailchimp audience fields automatically added by Sage CRM.

If your Mailchimp pricing plan allows, you can manually add a custom field to your Mailchimp audience to include more information in your campaign.

First, you need to add your custom field to the group in Sage CRM that is linked to your Mailchimp audience. Then, manually create the corresponding field in the Mailchimp audience. When naming the field in Mailchimp, use the initial ten characters of the corresponding Sage CRM field name. This is required so that Sage CRM automatically matches these fields and sends data to the correct Mailchimp field.

If your group in Sage CRM contains several fields whose first ten characters are identical, Sage CRM matches the field that takes the highest position in the group.
  1. In Sage CRM, go to My CRM | Groups.

  2. Locate and open the group linked to your Mailchimp audience.

  3. Select Change and step through the wizard to add a new field to the group contents.

Take note of the name of the field you're adding. To do so, on the screen where you're adding the field to the group contents, point to the field caption. The tooltip that appears shows the field name, for example:

    Tooltip showing field name

  4. In your Mailchimp audience, add the corresponding field (merge tag). For instructions, see Add and delete fields in the audience settings in the Mailchimp Help.

When naming the field in Mailchimp, use the initial ten characters of the corresponding field name in Sage CRM, so that Sage CRM automatically matches these fields. The matching is case-insensitive.

The field type in Mailchimp must be text because Sage CRM passes data to Mailchimp as text.

An example of automatically matched fields:

    Field name in Sage CRM

Corresponding field name (merge tag) in Mailchimp

    comp_mycustomfield

    comp_mycus

As a result, Sage CRM populates the value of the field you've added to the Mailchimp audience.
